Stanley Chanzu
Associate II, Urban Planning
Stanley Ndurah Chanzu is an urban planner with extensive experience in sustainable mobility, public transport planning, and non-motorised transport. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Planning from the University of Nairobi and currently serves as an Urban Planning Associate at the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy.
Stanley has worked across Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda, Ghana, and Tanzania, contributing to research, policy formulation, and urban transport planning to support more inclusive, efficient, and climate-resilient mobility systems. His expertise spans transport research, transit-oriented development, and travel demand management.
Before joining the Institute, Stanley served as Assistant Physical Planner at the County Government of Vihiga, where he focused on urban development planning, land use management, and development control. Earlier, he contributed to transport infrastructure planning, environmental impact assessments, and intelligent transport system studies at the Kenya Urban Roads Authority.
At the Institute, Stanley supports a range of sustainable mobility initiatives, with a focus on land use analysis, spatial assessments, and stakeholder engagement. His work promotes the development of integrated urban transport systems through parking management, electric mobility planning, non-motorised transport infrastructure, and transit-oriented development strategies.
A passionate advocate for capacity building and public engagement, Stanley frequently collaborates with government agencies, facilitates multi-stakeholder workshops, and speaks at international conferences, seminars, and training sessions. With a deep understanding of urban mobility challenges in African contexts, he continues to advance innovative, data-driven solutions that promote accessibility, equity, and environmental sustainability across the continent.
