Rwanda Urban Street Design Manual
The Rwanda Urban Street Design Manual (RUSDM) provides a comprehensive framework for designing streets that are safe, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all users. Developed by the Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) and the City of Kigali in collaboration with ITDP and UN-Habitat, the manual aims to enhance accessibility and improve the quality of public space in Rwanda’s rapidly urbanising cities.
As Rwandan cities undergo significant urban transformation, the RUSDM offers context-specific complete street design guidance that prioritises walking, cycling, and public transport. By promoting safer streets, reducing traffic-related injuries, and supporting more efficient and equitable mobility options, the manual contributes to the country’s vision of compact, connected, and resilient urban development.
